Exmouth Harriers had 31 runners out of the 1,230 finishers in the 2021 British Masters Virtual 1 Mile Challenge that finished on Sunday 7th March, this is almost a third of the membership of our club.
Masters runners (Men & Women aged 35 and over) from all clubs in GB were invited to run over a measured mile and submit their times to the organisers at BMAF (British Masters Athletic Federation) in the period from 24th February to 7th March.
Exmouth Harriers achieved a number of top 10 finishing positions which is amazing in a National competition for such a small club. Tom Merson was the overall winner of the event plus the he was the first M35 in a time of 4:21 in what was his first “race” as a Master having moved into the M35 category just 4 weeks ago. Exmouth Harriers M35-44 team of Tom Merson, Rob Ellis & Simon Minting won the overall and M35-44 team competitions.

A special well done to the M75+ squad, especially superstar Ray Elston for the superb time of 8:02, despite having to spend most of the last 10 weeks renovating and redecorating his new home instead of training.
Big thanks to Amanda McCann for acting as ‘carer’ for Exmouth Harriers M75+ (and some of them are over 80!!) Dad’s Army Branch, doubling as a pacer for one lucky runner and keeping the old boys under control
Thanks, also to Jim Wyatt, unable to train seriously or run competitively for 3 – 4 years due to injuries, for making the effort to ensure a 100% turnout of the M75+ membership. Also, to Mike Keep, chief timekeeper and photographer.
